How to Become the Best Leader Possible

What makes someone the best leader possible?

I just finished speaking in Phoenix at one of the largest associations in the world, the International Franchise Association.

Leaders from a lot of different franchise groups attend, so I spent lots of time talking to them.

I really clarified in my own mind what a great leader is and how to become the best leader possible – and want to share that with you.

You’re probably leading somebody, whether it’s just your spouse, your family or your church group, or a company or a team inside a company.

Chances are though, you’re not hearing a lot about leadership. Where do you really go to learn about being the best leader possible?

You think: If I want to be a great leader, what does that mean for me? If I want to become great at leading other people, what do I have to do? How do I have to grow? How do I have to improve or who do I have to become to be a great leader?

The thought of leadership is scary. It’s a little bit daunting. It’s overwhelming and you might wonder if you’re cut out for it or not.

You worry: I don’t know if I’m good enough for it. I don’t know if I have enough education or intelligence, or enough connections to be a great leader.

Being the best leader doesn’t mean you have to be the best player.

The best leader is the person who brings out the best in all the players around them.

That takes some pressure off you because you don’t have to be the best.

You don’t have to be the smartest. You don’t have to be the fastest. You don’t have to have it all together.

To be a leader, you have to care about those around you.

You have to be willing to serve and support your people, and be willing to do everything you can to help them become the best version of themselves.

One of the things we believe in at Southwestern Consulting is that about 90% of leadership problems are solved by leadership through example.

And remember, just because we’re saying you don’t have to be the best player, don’t take that as a pass that you don’t have to be great at what you do.

But if you’re truly concerned about helping other people be their best, then the number one thing you can do for those people is to show them how to do the job.

Show them what success looks like, and demonstrate greatness in action.

That’s why leadership is so important.

You don’t have to be the best player, but you have to be a great player.

You have to model and demonstrate and lead by example. Hopefully that takes pressure off you because leadership isn’t for your own glory or achievement.

A true leader wants to be great so he or she can model that greatness to others.

And that doesn’t mean you have to be the best player.

The best leader is the person who’s best at bringing out the best in others.

That’s just one idea on leadership that I think is powerful and inspiring.
