Living By Faith

You’re either living by faith or you’re living by sight.

If you’re living by faith then you’re believing in the possibility of a better future – which is empowering.

If you’re living by sight then you’re only able to believe in what you see today – which is limiting.

If you’re living by faith then you’re making choices in the context of something that could matter more tomorrow.

If you’re living by sight then you’re making choices only in the context of what seems best here and now.

When you live by faith you have a reason to make sacrifices.

When you live only by sight you’ll be drawn to indulgences.

When you live by faith you see how painful things can prepare you for hopeful things.

When you live only by sight you see painful things as evidence of why things will never get better.

Living by faith is a discipline.

It’s a choice.

Because it takes energy to believe in the future.

It requires you to hope.

It requires you to risk.

It requires you to trust.

It requires you to work and fight for something better that you can’t yet see.

And today that choice is always more difficult than the choice to just live for here and now.

But tomorrow that choice always eventually pays off as a future that is better than what you thought was possible yesterday.
