The Eighth Income Producing Activity of Sales Leaders (Part 8 of 12)

Does your team tend to interrupt you during the work day?

The one thing I find critically important as I work with sales managers is helping them to set up weekly personal conferences or one-on-ones with their team members. These meetings will significantly cut down on your daily interruptions.

If you have been following along in this series, the 12 different income-producing activities of a sales manager, today is about having one-on-ones with your team on a weekly basis. I think this is so critically important when I work with sales managers who feel like they’re getting interrupted all day by their team.

If you feel like you are constantly being reactive and interrupted, implementing this one thing tends to make a radical difference in time management. Regular personal conferences or more commonly known as one on ones, with team members on a weekly basis and sometimes on a monthly basis will change your productivity as a sales manager.

It’s a regularly scheduled meeting with your team member where anything that’s not a fire gets addressed. Encourage your team members to know what is worth an interruption and what is not. For example, if I were sitting in a meeting with the CEO or the president of our company, would you interrupt me for this? Or would you wait until our next personal conference to review it together? Boundaries are healthy, and they help your team form critical thinking skills.

I would love to discuss this further and even help you set up the structure of these personal conferences. Please connect with me at for additional videos and tips you can go on and check out my blog too.
